Whilst working as an engineer he gained an interest in data analytics and software development and has experience developing digital tools to support civil asset management.

What’s the most interesting project or problem you’re working on right now?
I am currently working on a chatbot that will be deployed to parents in Palestine. The purpose of the chatbot is to provide guidance for parents on supporting their children through periods of crisis. This will hopefully help those who have been affected by the ongoing conflict. The development process is interesting as we need to cater for people in different situations and we also have had to adapt the chatbot to be able to function in times of no internet.

What social problem is nearest and dearest to you?
The social problem that is nearest and dearest to me is education inequality. I firmly believe that access to quality education is a fundamental right, but unfortunately, it’s often dictated by socioeconomic status, geography, and systemic inequities. Growing up, I was fortunate to have some excellent teachers (one of whom has also worked for IDEMS!) and I hope that through technology we can improve access to education worldwide.

Why did/do you choose to work at IDEMS?
I was looking for an opportunity to work with a technology company and progress my skills as a developer, but I was also aware that many tech companies are purely profit driven and don’t have ethical safeguards in place around the tech they develop. I was drawn to IDEMS for its commitment to meaningful, collaborative, and impactful work at the intersection of disciplines. The chance to contribute to real-world solutions while working with a dynamic team was very appealing.

Where is home?
At the moment home is in London. I have recently moved back to the UK after living in Brazil for the past three years. My partner works for the UK foreign office and we enjoyed exploring Brazil which is a fabulous and diverse country. We are probably going to stay in London for a couple of years now to reconnect with family and friends, but longer term we would probably like to move abroad again as we enjoy the travel and learning about different cultures.
