WASH App

IDEMS oversaw the development of a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH App) through the collaboration of partners including INNODEMS in Kenya who led the technical development of the app as well as research partners, University of Oxford, University of Cape Town, National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) – Mwanza Centre Tanzania, and Clowns Without Borders South Africa (‘the WASH App team’).

The WASH App was instigated as the control app for the ‘ParentApp for Teens’ Randomised Control Trial as part of our Global Parenting Initiative work and includes modules such as ‘Handwashing with Soap’, ‘Clean Toilets’ and ‘Safe Drinking Water’ among other modules. What sets the WASH App apart is its culturally attuned content, tailored to resonate with the local context of Mwanza, Tanzania. This localization process was driven by a team of WASH experts aligning messaging with global hygiene standards but equally respecting and integrating the unique cultural aspects of the region. Through this process, IDEMS recycled our unique content authoring spreadsheet system to bring to life an app within a four month period (from conception to completion).

We are redeveloping UNICEF’s Internet of Good Things which is used to support youth and first time internet users in over 30 countries.
