IDEMS

IDEMS’ work is collaborative and transdisciplinary

Our team, our partners, and our grassroots network of communities around the world all bring deep expertise of their own – and a practice of working in humble, collaborative partnership with others.

01

IMPACT R&D PARTNERS

IDEMS works with disciplinary experts with an evidence-based social innovation seeking to scale impact in collaboration with local communities and partners. Together, we develop the foundational suite of program technology and resources that underpin local digital adaptation – and layer programming with program-specific CommonTech infrastructure – to enable global-local collaboration and innovation.

Collaborations require impact-focused grant funding, led by disciplinary experts, to pilot technology with measurable outcomes validated by research teams.

02

PURPOSE-DRIVEN MATHEMATICAL SCIENTISTS

IDEMS innovation is developed by our team of brilliant mathematical scientists who are committed to purpose-led careers. While IDEMS’ team members bring intellect and deep academic knowledge, they are differentiated by their sense of service to others, ability to communicate and collaborate, and desire to apply their talents for public good.

We always welcome enquiries from talented postgraduate mathematical scientists.

We also have a specific fellowship opportunity for recent doctoral graduates or late-career talent interested in moving towards careers in social impact.

03

IMPACT ENABLERS

Mathematical scientists are great, but inclusive public good innovation requires diverse teams who bring a range of expertise and experiences.

Our team also includes social scientists, product developers, community organizers, and those who have spent substantial proportions of their career living in or working on any of the grand-challenge problems we tackle – whether in low- or middle-income countries or in underserved and marginalized communities in high-resource contexts.

We are always on the lookout for those who don’t fit the conventional mold (or those who do, but are ready for a new challenge), are interested in ambitious technology innovation for societal benefit, and bring an unusual mix of skills to add to our already unusual team blend.

04

APPLIED TECHNOLOGISTS

Our deeply technical innovations only have value if people with varying behaviors, skills and needs can use them.

We recognize the importance of and value professional experience in building solutions based on an understanding of users and their needs. We are interested in product developers, software engineers, project managers and those who bring professional experience to build products and services for expert and community partners, stakeholders and end users.

We are always on the look out for talented professionals who want to work on socially impactful, human-centered innovation and are able to integrate into our team.

All new hires begin with a two-year Impact Activation Fellowship, in which they learn to work in partnership with a range of stakeholders to develop and deliver impact innovation.

CLIMATE DATA ANALYSTS

Climate data analysts support IDEMS’ global data rescue work, in collaboration with national and regional offices. Work underpins the delivery of Participatory Integrated Climate Services for Agriculture (PICSA) – and related E-PICSA and AI-PICSA innovations.

IDEMS is currently developing the model and enabling technology for national-level data products and services, managed by national Meteorological Office teams, to provide location-specific historic rainfall and temperature data based on historic station and satellite data. Already scaling in the context of PICSA, a locally-owned, generalized data product has wide application for climate-change preparation and planning in LMICs.
